Tyra Banks Returns to America’s Next Top Model
She’s back! Fresh off of making headlines for taking over as host of America’s Got Talent, Tyra Banks stunned fans last night with another announcement. Taking to Twitter, Banks revealed that she would be returning to America’s Next Top Modelfor the show’s 24th season. VH1’s reboot of the franchise brought the drama back to television last year with a splashy new panel featuring Rita Ora, Ashley Graham, and Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach. Though fans were drawn in by the updated version, the prospect of Banks returning lends next-level excitement to the show. With her larger-than-life persona and ability to launch countless memes—we were all rooting for you!—Banks was an integral part of what made ANTM one of reality television’s longest-running phenomena.
Since its debut in 2003, the show has launched in dozens of countries and led to the discovery of some of the runway’s biggest stars, with everyone from Russian Victoria’s Secret stunner Kate Grigorieva to Korean runway queen Sora Choi getting a break through the series’ spin-offs. Though the American edition is better known for kick-starting the careers of actresses like Analeigh Tipton and Yaya DaCosta, it has on occasion served to provide fashion with a great face, like Ralph Lauren beauty Fatima Siad or Givenchy campaign star Leila Goldkuhl. And now more than ever, in the age of Kendall and Gigi, a reality-TV stint can be the catalyst for a major career—meaning the time is right for ANTM to give the world another star. With Banks there to guide the process, that seems all the more likely.
