What wiretap scandal?
On January 20th, Barack Obama packed up his stuff, hopped on a plane and got the hell out of Dodge. His time as President was over, and he needed a break, and, well, it's been utter mayhem since.
Few things are certain these days, but we're pretty sure that Obama wasn't expecting to get reeled back into the political sphere so soon, with accusations that he wiretapped Donald Trump, suspect as they may be, coming over the weekend. The allegation came from Trump himself, in a string of ham-handed Twitter messages fired off at 7am Saturday morning, igniting confusion and turmoil in the already leaky ass White House. Like so much that's happened in Washington lately, it was a disaster.
So what was Obama's response? The following day, while exiting the National Gallery Of Art in DC, the former president and his wife Michelle looked anything but bothered; an unworried disposition that channeled a response of Who me?. (Not a care in the world! screamed the Daily Mail). And the outfit? Well, it was on point. In fact, it was just a continuation of Obama looking downright stylish as a civilian, something that's becoming a bit of a trend. Decked out in a dark jeans, a chambray shirt, a brown leather jacket, and sunglasses, he was giving us casual, slightly Seventies vibes that look pulled, well, straight from the pages of this magazine. And as Trump has to deal with the aftermath of his claim, Obama is serving up the best sort of riposte: looking good. Could the sleeves be a bit shorter and the pants slightly more tapered? Sure. But, as we've seen, Obama is a trend forecaster, so perhaps this is just another case of him being ahead of the curve. Plus, there are far greater things to worry about, rather than an extra inch on a jacket sleeve.
While we hardly think—or hope, rather—that this silence will go on much longer, we appreciate Barack's ability to play it cool in the face of such ridiculousness. It only makes him look that much more superior when juxtaposed with a man who literally tapes his ties together.
